Sam Fender has shared a teaser of a euphoric new song with fans. Check it out below.
The Geordie singer-songwriter took to his Instagram Stories this afternoon (October 2) to share two new snippets of new music with fans. Only available to view on his page for 24 hours, the clips show Fender filming the speakers inside his studio, and revealing two sections of what seems to be the same new track.
If the new material turns out to be part of a full album, it’ll be some of the first new music from the musician since he released his critically acclaimed sophomore album ‘Seventeen Going Under’ in 2021.
Both the clips on his Instagram Stories seem to have an upbeat, summer feel to them, yet the lyrics contain a touch of melancholy. “Do you have a moment?/ I was holding on hope,” he can be heard singing in the first one, while the second contains lyrics like: “I’ve been broken on this one last time/ We’re dancing to the rhythm of it / Sometimes you tell me you don’t want to win it.”
As for the sound of the new track, there is an unmissable influence to Bruce Springsteen that comes through – with the singer being open about his admiration for The Boss in the past – as well as a subtle nod to The 1975. The second clip also appears to come from the end part of the song and shows an emotive string section.
Shortly after sharing the teasers for the new song, Fender took to his Stories once more, this time sharing self-filmed footage of him in the studio playing the double bass. Check out all three posts below.

This isn’t the first time that Sam Fender has teased fans with new material in recent months. Back at the beginning of August, he previewed two unreleased songs at a show in Plymouth – which came as a warm up to his Boardmasters headline show. The two new songs previewed for fans on the night were called ‘People Watching’ and ‘Nostalgia’s Lie’, and Fender said the two would appear on his upcoming third album.
Although he hasn’t released a full album since ‘Seventeen Going Under’ – which came as the follow-up to breakthrough 2019 debut ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ – Fender has shared more material since then.
Back in January, he dropped the soulful ‘Iris‘, taken from the Jackdaw soundtrack, as well as his Noah Kahan collaboration ‘Homesick‘. He has also teased new music with The War On Drugs frontman Adam Granduciel.
Since then, he confirmed to fans over the summer that he had welcomed singer Brooke Bentham into his band, and shared that “her voice is all over the next album”. He also spoke with Brian Johnson and Mark Knopfler in May as part of the Sky Arts’ Music Legends series, in which he revealed that he felt “rushed” to release his second record.
The long-awaited third album from Fender has been anticipated since he shared pre-order details last summer. Ahead of his two massive homecoming shows in June 2023 – which saw over 100,000 fans flock to Newcastle’s St James’ Park stadium – a series of billboards appeared close to the stadium, and piqued fans’ curiosity.
The posters contained three variations of Newcastle United shirts, each one representing one of his albums. The first showed the garment with the number one on it — representing his debut — the second showed the number two, referring to his second LP, and the third came with a QR code that fans could scan to receive updates.
As for more about what the new material could sound like, Fender spoke to NME ahead of his biggest shows to date, and told us that the new music was sounding “very pretty” with a strong “singer-songwriter” vibe.
