‘Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight says forthcoming movie “won’t be the end”

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has confirmed that the forthcoming Netflix movie “won’t be the end” for the BBC crime drama.

Filming recently wrapped on the upcoming movie, which is written by Knight and directed by Tom Harper, who helmed three episodes of the show. Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Tommy Shelby, alongside a supporting cast made up of Stephen GrahamRebecca FergusonBarry Keoghan and Tim Roth. No release date has yet been confirmed.

The film is set during World War II. Knight recently said about the film: “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”

“I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II. The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders,” Knight added.

Following filming, he recently hinted at a “new generation” show with a new set of characters.

Now, Knight has confirmed that the film won’t be the last we see of the gangster franchise.

When asked by Times Radio what the future holds for Peaky Blinders, he said: “Well, it’s interesting you should ask that question because the film is coming out and that won’t be the end.”

He was then pressed on whether a new TV series was coming. “It won’t be the end, let me put it that way. I’m not saying none of it,” Knight added.

The director also confirmed that the movie will be released in “about a year”.

In other Peaky Blinders-related news, Vinnie Jones recently said he wished he had been cast in the BBC crime drama.

Last month the show’s costume designer Stephanie Collie died aged 60. Murphy led tributes to the designer and other actors who worked with her, including Ryan ReynoldsDaniel Craig and Samuel L. Jackson, also paid their respects.

The sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders aired on BBC One in 2022.
