Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds have topped the list of the highest paid actors of 2024.
Compiled by Forbes, the list takes into account deals made for acting projects, as well as endorsements and other business dealings.
Topping the list is Johnson, the highest-paid actor in Hollywood with £88million (£69million, listed as $103million/£81million gross before agents and other fees). The wrestler-turned-movie star was said to have made the majority of his money from a lucrative deal with Netflix for the action-comedy Red One, as well as having a percentage of profits from Moana 2.
Closely behind in second place is Ryan Reynolds with $85million (£67million, $100million/£79million gross), Johnson’s co-star from the film Red Notice. His fortune is said to come from being the lead producer, co-writer and star of Marvel smash hit Deadpool & Wolverine, as well as his documentary Welcome To Wrexham and starring in family film IF.
Comedians Kevin Hart ($81million/£64million, $85million gross) and Jerry Seinfeld ($60million/£47million, $70million/£55million gross) took up the next two spots, having both made films for Netflix (Lift and Unfrosted respectively). Part of Seinfeld’s figure comes from royalties from his eponymous sitcom, which still brings him eight figures every year according to the piece.
Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Hugh Jackman rounds out the top five, having made $50million (£39million, $66million/£52million gross) from his return to the X-Men character.
The stars of Apple TV+ film Wolfs, Brad Pitt ($32million/$25million, $42million/£33million gross) and George Clooney ($31million/£24.5million, $37million/29million gross) take sixth and seventh, with Pitt placing higher due to his casting in racing drama F1.
The only woman in the top 10 is Nicole Kidman, who places eighth thanks to her prolific work in television. She reportedly made $1million (£790,000) per episode for the shows Expats, Lioness, and The Perfect Couple. The busy Oscar winner also found time to star in two movies, Babygirl and A Family Affair.
Adam Sandler’s ongoing exclusive deal with Netflix is enough to ensure him ninth place ($26million/£20million, $35million/£27million gross), with Happy Gilmore 2 in production for the streamer and rare dramatic performance Spaceman also coming under that agreement. Will Smith finds himself in tenth, thanks to the success of Bad Boys: Ride Or Die.
Interestingly, younger stars in Hollywood didn’t feature at all in the list. Everyone in the top 20 is over 40 years old, with the average age being 54. 2023’s list saw Sandler in first, with Margot Robbie’s success with Barbie putting her in second.
This and Kidman’s placing this year are in contrast with 2022, where the top ten was dominated by male actors.
