J.K. Rowling has responded to the comments made by Emma Watson, in which the actor extended an olive branch to the author.
Rowling has been a vocal opponent of the Transgender community since 2019, sharing many gender critical posts and tweets that have been described as transphobic.
Numerous actors for the Harry Potter films have distanced themselves from her opinions, with Watson – who played Hermione Granger in the franchise – previously tweeting: “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.”
The messages led to Rowling saying she would “never forgive” the actors for their criticism.
Recently, Watson appeared on the latest episode of the On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast, where she addressed the relationship between her and the author. She said that she would still “cherish” her previous experiences with the writer, despite their dispute over Transgender rights.
“I really don’t believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, mean that I can’t treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with,” Watson said.
“I will never believe that one negates the other, and that my experience of that person I don’t get to keep and cherish. I just don’t think these things are either/or. I think it’s my deepest wish that I hope people who don’t agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don’t necessarily share the same opinion with.”
Watson continued to say that “the thing I’m most upset about is that a conversation was never made possible”.
Now, it seems that J.K. Rowling has indirectly responded to the comments made by Watson on X/Twitter.
On the platform, Rowling retweeted a post by a satirist who goes by the name Intel Lady. In the post, the latter shared a video of herself doing an impression of Watson.
“When it comes to my relationship with Jo, obviously I will never forget the opportunity that she gave me. She saw something so, so special in me [and] she knew she had to bring me into her creative vision,” she said in the video.
She added: “I will forever be grateful. She changed the entire trajectory of my life and I’ll never forget that […] But also I stand shoulder to shoulder with those who wish harm on her, hate her, and would wish the absolute worst for her in her life.
“Those seemingly incompatible two [views] can exist at the same time, which is why I love this incredibly diverse world that we live in.”

She also went on to insinuate that Watson was extending the olive branch as she was aware Rowling was writing new material, and hoped that she could get another role in a future project of hers. “My agent hasn’t called me again in a while, so I don’t know if that will be possible,” the satirist said, pretending to be the actor.
Rowling then reposted the video on her own X account, giving the clip her seal of approval and saying that she was “here for ALL the spoofs”. She also added that she missed Intel Lady’s impersonation of Labour and Co-operative MP Angela Rayner.
In other news, Emma Watson and another Harry Potter actor, Zoe Wannamaker, were both banned from driving on the same day at the same court for separate speeding offences.
As for Harry Potter, HBO has shared the first looks at Dominic McLaughlin and Nick Frost in costume for the upcoming TV adaptation of the book and film franchise. McLaughlin will be playing Harry Potter, while Frost portrays Hagrid.
