Chris Pratt criticised for describing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as “funny” and “wonderful”

Chris Pratt has been criticised for describing Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is the cousin of his wife, as “funny” and “wonderful”.

The Guardians Of The Galaxy and Jurassic World star is married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, who in turn is a cousin of the current US Secretary of Health and Human Services and a close ally of President Donald Trump.

Pratt appeared on an episode of Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast this week and was asked about his relationship with Kennedy, who has been criticised by some for his breaks from scientific consensus and attitudes towards vaccinations.

The actor said he had spent time with Kennedy on “a number of occasions”, primarily in a “strictly family dinner kind of vibe”.

“I really get along with him well and think he’s great,” he said. “He’s funny, he’s wonderful. I love him.”

“Politics, it’s a nasty business,” he continued. “When you jump on the bandwagon with the most divisive president ever, it makes sense that you’re going to be made to look terrible.”

“I don’t know what to believe [about Kennedy],” he added. “It’s not like I say to [him], ‘Let’s talk about this’ while we’re playing cards or having fun or having dinner. I’m not going to pick his brain to find out exactly which of those things are true. I just assume that none of them are? For the most part, I wish him well.”

“There’s certain things [that Kennedy] oversees that seem to be supported in a bipartisan way – like getting terrible toxic stuff out of our kids’ food,” he said. “I think that’s a great thing. I’d hate to be so mired in hatred for the president that any success from his administration is something I’d be having an allergic reaction to. To be like, ‘Oh, well, if they do it, I don’t want it to happen. I’ll put Clorox in my children’s cereal myself!’ Be reasonable here. There’s certain things that would be a good thing to have. I want them all to be successful.”

Many have criticised Pratt for his comments, with one X user writing: “’When you side with the fascist, people make you look like a fascist’. Well yes, Chris Pratt, that IS how that works.”

Pratt has been coy about his political affiliation in the past. In the run-up to the 2024 US election, he wrote an op-ed he wrote in Sunday Paper, in which he did not endorse either Trump or Kamala Harris, instead stating that he was focused on making sure Americans continue to help each other regardless of the result.

In 2022, he was criticised for being “out of touch” in his endorsement of billionaire former Republican candidate Rick Caruso in the race to be Los Angeles mayor.
